Requirements For A New Beginning

“Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert”
- (Isaiah 43:18-19, NKJV)

A new beginning is a fresh start, when God opens a new chapter of someone’s life (e.g., Saul of Tarsus on his way to Damascus). A new beginning is when God totally obliterates an ugly past and ushers someone into a new season. A new beginning will make one forget the struggles, anguish, unpleasantries and pains of the past (e.g., Joseph). A new beginning is when one encounters God and His manifestations anew, when someone begins to go deeper in God. (e.g., Moses). A new beginning also occurs when one begins to operate in their God given destiny and space. Below are some requirements for a new beginning:

A new heart: The heart is the core of the man. It is the spirit of man. A new heart is received by the believer at the point of conversion. It is a spiritual rebirth and awakening which is orchestrated by the Holy Spirit who takes up residence in the person when he/she receives Jesus into his/her heart. The Message Translation of 2 Corinthians 5:17 reads: ”Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life burgeons!” The born-again experience is a new beginning for the believer.

A renewed mind: In our main text above, God instructs that we should not remember the former things. In other words, we are enjoined to stop living in the past. The past has a way of obstructing the new things God wants to do. The Apostle Paul says the way he deals with the past is that he looks forward to what lies ahead. He says he presses towards the goal for the prize of the upward call of God (Philippians 3:13-14). We can enter a new beginning as we adopt God’s thinking patterns and jettison our thinking patterns that limits the move of God in our lives.

A new perspective: Everyman’s ignorance is his mountain. A wise man said the problem usually is not the problem, the real problem is the way we see the problem. Goliath was a challenge to King Saul and the Israelites. They saw a powerful undefeatable foe. David saw Goliath in a different light. He saw him as an uncircumcised, uncovenanted and uncovered foe who is despising the people of God. Because of David’s perspective he was able to take on Goliath and defeat him and brought a new beginning to the children of Israel.

A new approach: God is dynamic, but His standards are fixed. The pandemic ushered in a new world order with many challenges. Alongside with the many challenges, we have also witnessed ingenuity and innovation that occurred as humankind was trying to solve problems that besieged it. A new beginning is necessitated as we attempt to solve new problems. Elisha while trying to solve the problems of the people of Jericho said they should bring him a new bowl (2 Kings 2:20). God is always doing new things but we have to be flexible in our thinking and adaptable in our ways to experience the new.

Conclusion: This is the season of new beginnings. Adjust your thinking, align your ways to the highway of God and expect Him to usher you to fresh and new beginnings in Jesus’ name.
